Following feedback from both the local community and a variety of stakeholders, including Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, we at Tellon Capital have recently submitted amendments to our plans for the enhancement of Chineham District Centre.

You may recall that we previously submitted plans for the centre’s enhancement in November 2018, having undertaken two rounds of consultation in June and September 2018. Since that time, we have been working to update our proposals to address the comments of various consultees and to respond to current market conditions.

Full details of the revised plans and the key changes from the original application can be found in this newsletter, which was sent to residents in the week commencing the 7th October.

Update regarding the Chineham District Centre enhancement proposals

We at Tellon Capital submitted plans to Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council in November 2018 to enhance Chineham District Centre, having undertaken consultation since June 2018.

We are currently progressing amends to the submitted application, which include a bigger public heart space with restaurants next to it, and a reduction in the scale of the proposed eastern terrace and the concurrent removal of the cinema.

The scheme will still deliver new shops, restaurants, healthcare or an office facility, a gym, new public spaces and landscaping, more parking and improved pedestrian/cycle access. We are also actively seeking a new home for the post office at the centre.

During our consultation process, only 27% of respondents expressed their desire to see a cinema included as part of the enhancement proposals. By way of comparison, 75% supported the addition of restaurants, 71% were in favour of retaining a post office and 69% expressed a desire for further retail units.

In revising the plans, we have striven to keep the uses identified as most important whilst reducing the scale of the scheme and maintaining viability. We now want to progress and deliver these enhancements to this important community asset.

A hotel will still be included within the amended plans as it makes a substantial contribution towards the viability of the scheme, whilst our market research indicates that there is a strong demand for additional hotel accommodation within Basingstoke.

When finalised, we will update the community on the full details of these amends, including on the Chineham Shopping website (http://www.chinehamshopping.co.uk/).

In the meantime, those with any queries regarding the proposals are encouraged to contact the Consultation team by calling 0800 298 7040, or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
